Lake Tahoe boasts one of the highest concentrations of ski areas in the world with nearly 20 ski resorts within a 50 mile radius. Located immediately next to Squaw, Alpine Meadows is the local's choice for great skiing and riding. In addition to steep, exciting lift access terrain, Alpine has lots of out of bounds hiking that will take you to those secret stashes days after a storm.

Straddling the California / Nevada border on the south side of Lake Tahoe, Heavenly has striking views of both Tahoe and the Carson Valley. The base of the ski area is also within walking distance to South Shore's many casino so the night life is just a short stroll away. If you're looking for a ski area with great views, miles of moderate terrain, and an exciting apres-ski scene, Heavenly is a great choice.

Situated to receive some of the highest snowfalls in the country, Kirkwood is always a good bet for deep powder and short lift lines. It's a little harder to get to, about a half hour outside of South Shore, Lake Tahoe, but that just means you'll have more of it to yourself. It also features some of the steepest terrain in Tahoe, and often hosts extreme skiing and snowboarding contests.

This is the easiest mountain to get to from Reno, NV, and the best ski hill close to Incline Village. It is also one of the highest ski areas in Tahoe, so you're always sure to get some of the lightest snow you could find. They also recently opened "The Chutes", which which many Mt.Rose enthusiasts claim to be as long, steep and technical as anything in Tahoe.

Northstar At Tahoe
Northstar is Tahoe's best family ski destination. They recently completed a huge on mountain village with restaurants, night clubs, tons of accomodations, an ice-skating rink, and much more, so there will always be something for everyone to do. Northstar also has miles of moderate runs, great grooming, one of the best terrain parks in Tahoe, and exceptionally friendly staff.

Every year top skiiers from around the globe come to Squaw to film their heroics for audiences world wide. If you're looking for the steepest, most challenging terrain in Tahoe, this is it.

The first ski resort ever established in the Tahoe area, Sugar Bowl is a classic. Located close to I-80 just outside of Truckee, it is easy to get to from just about anywhere, and boasts great views of Donner Lake. Locals and visitors alike enjoy Sugar Bowl's great lift access terrain and amazing out of bounds backcountry acccess.
